Welcome on the Greek Namedays site!!!

In Orthodox Christian countries, individuals traditionally celebrate their name day instead of their birthday. Since Orthodox Christians are usually named after a saint or feast day of the Church, all those having the same name celebrate together on that saint's feast or the particular feast of the Church.

For instance: Saint Nicholas died on December 6th in the year 342. All those named after Saint Nicholas celebrate their name day on December 6th, because almost every name can be given to boys as well as to girls. The name Nicholas can be changed into Nicoletta. And because every Greek individual gets a Greek Orthodox name when baptized, everybody has one special nameday to celebrate.
